Introducing the BattleGrounds Fitness Team
Meet the fitness experts ready to help you achieve your fitness goals and your potential.
Joseph McFadden is a co-founder of Battlegrounds Fitness and a CrossFit Level 1 trainer. He is a combat veteran of the Marine Corps where he earned the rank of Sergeant. Currently he serves in the Virginia Army National Guard. His path to CrossFit started when he started training for the Marine Corps Marathon in memory of his fallen brother SSgt David Stewart, killed in Afghanistan in 2014. He ran that first marathon in 2015 and found CrossFit a few short months later. He fell in love with CrossFit because it kept his attention with constantly varied functional movement. He loves coaching the members that come to him for 1:1 personal training or in a group setting. He’ll work with you on setting nutrition goals and will always try to put you in a good mood. He will cheer you on and try to make your workout the very best part of your day while helping you do it in a safe and effective way.
Freddy Medina, aka “Rocky” is the Co-Founder of BattleGrounds Fitness. He was born in Oruro, Bolivia and moved to the US with his family at the age of 13–after overcoming several hurdles to obtain legal residency status, Rocky enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served as a Combat Engineer and Marine Combat instructor of Water Survival. In 2005, he was deployed to the Al-Anbar Province in Iraq as a Civil Affairs Specialist with the 5th Civil Affairs Group during OIF III.
After many years of playing recreational sports and running short and long distance races to stay healthy. Rocky was introduced to CrossFit in 2017 as a potential business opportunity while living in Bolivia, that idea was solidified upon reuniting with Co-Founder, Joe McFadden and in the winter of 2018, both decided to take the leap of faith and literally “build” a family-friendly fitness facility, where he now coaches CrossFit group classes as a CF L1 coach and runs the most fun birthday parties in town on weekends.
Rocky received his B.S. in Public Administration from George Mason University and currently works for the Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC) as a Hospital Services and Professional Education Specialist, where he develops important relationships with local hospital partners in a collaborative effort to save lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. Rocky strongly believes that BattleGrounds Fitness can help and prevent people from suffering from chronic disease, including obesity, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, hypertension, and kidney disease.
Rocky is most proud of being part of a business that focuses on being inclusive of people from all walks of life and promotes family health and fitness. Working out is much more fun when you, your loved ones and friends can do it together.
